Apple Time

Do you recall who Johnny Appleseed was?  His real name was John Chapman, born on September 26, 1774 in Massachusetts. A thoughtful and gentle man, he slept outdoors, wore old clothing, and walked barefoot around the country planting and giving out apple seeds. He spent almost 50 years of his life in the American wilderness creating apple orchards in a number of states. Some of those trees still bear fruit.  His dream was for a land of blossoming apple trees so no one would be hungry.

It was enjoyable listening to a story and  watching a video about this amazing American pioneer nurseryman. We wanted to share one thing we learned about this generous man.

A note from Mrs. Lee:

Congratulations to Lauren for painting a prize winning HMS PTO Fundraiser Poster for the Kindergarten and Grade 1 Level.  She received a gift card for the Apple store. Go Lauren!!!

The Kindergarten grade level Ice Cream Social was a refreshing  get together enjoyed by many families.  Mahalo nui loa to all of the Room Parents for their help. I'd like to convey a special thanks to our two Room Mothers, Dr. Yagi and Mrs. Nakama, who stood manning the assembly table serving ice cream, strawberry sorbet, colorful sprinkles, and chocolate syrup for the entire length of the event.

Tidbits to remember:
  • Monday, September 24th - Library Books due
  • Friday, September 28th - Discovery Center Field Trip.  Students are asked to wear the HMS gray t-shirt, long or short pants, and sport shoes.
A hui hou,
Mrs. Lee
